Dental Veneers at Lakes Boulevard Dental

Veneers are cosmetic restorations added to the front surface of a tooth to correct discolouration, minor misalignment, chips or cracks. They are also used to close gaps between teeth and build up worn teeth to restore a more glamorous smile.

Veneers can be made from porcelain or composite. There are advantages and disadvantages to both types of veneers:

  • Porcelain Veneers: are strong, durable and often are the material of choice in most glamorous makeovers. They are resistant to staining caused by food, drinks or smoking. Porcelain veneers also need to be manufactured off-site and can take a few weeks to complete. If they crack or chip, the whole porcelain veneer must be replaced.
  • Composite Resin Veneers: can be added to your existing teeth in one visit. Any chips or cracks to composite resin veneers can be repaired and are cheaper than porcelain veneers. The disadvantage of composite veneers is that they can become stained and dull over time, and frequent brush-up is required to maintain its gloss and shine.

Veneers will last about 10 years and possibly much longer. A visit to the dentist for a check-up and clean must be scheduled at least twice a year. Most importantly, only use your teeth for eating food – don’t chew pens, crunch ice or open plastic bags with them!

If you are unhappy with the cosmetic appearance of your teeth as a result of chips, gaps or cracks then speak to our cosmetic dentists to find out which type of dental veneers may be the most suitable option for you.
